Robert Thompson 'A Silent Reading' Exhibition runs 15th August - 6th October, 2014 (extended)
Artist's statement - A Silent Reading When contemplating how I want to
introduce my art what immediately comes to mind is the sense of continuity that
art provides. History dissolves in the face of art in certain respects. Art is
one connective tissue. Making art is one of experiencing moments of
recognition. No preconceived utterances or declarations; there are simply
isolated moments of knowing. Making marks, finding colour, allowing the
inclusion of heads, birds, landscape; all small gestures that leave their
presence on the paper…a presence that is larger than its parts giving rise to
the possibility of a silent reading of the finished work; where finished is
defined by the ability of the image to give something back, to announce its own
new found presence.
