“The only idea is to make a rich and satisfying image from paint. For me, well- painted is when the paint is itself and is also something else. What I end up with are essentially abstracted Expressionist/Impressionist landscape paintings with a tendency towards the surreal."
White Paintings: “The idea behind these works in particular, and the reason I refer to them as my 'White Paintings', was to have areas of dense colour floating in or structured across a basically white or pale field. They are in response to the density of much of my work to that point: I wanted to introduce what one of my tutors once referred to as 'rest areas', as much for myself as for the viewer.”
